The project Artificial Trees deals with the tension between the natural world and man’s infiltration upon it. The stark beauty of a tree at night illuminated by an artificial light source is compelling. As I stand before a tree controlled and provoked by man made obstructions; surrounded by buildings, cement, power lines, and street lamps, I think. I think long and hard about what it all means and how it all works. I think about the relationship between humans and the natural environment, in which we live, take over, and create.
